BLUEBERRIES
Jim Leap gave us a tour of the blueberry patch and told us about the fruit. We learned that these berries are hard to grow in Santa Cruz because the winters are too warm. At the UCSC farm they are doing trials of different varieties to find plants that do well in this climate.
Seems like they found a few good varieties because
our blueberry muffins were delicious!

Fruit Thinning
We learned to thin the baby fruit off of the apple trees so that the trees can focus their energy on growing bigger more flavorful fruits rather than dispersing all of their growing power to lots of fruit.
